Moving Along on Day 4

11:55 AM: With CBC wrapping up their morning coverage, I wrap up the live blog of Day 4! Tonight, as always, at 6:30 PM, I'll be on air at www.blogtalkradio.com/hdsports to touch on the good stuff of Day 4. That's it for now. I'll be back for Day 5!!
11:22 AM: Yay! Diving's on again. The Women's 10 M Synchronized-China owned that event again earlier, 3-3 so far in diving golds. The field of divers have changed so much since the last Olympics. It's like there's a brand new generation of athletes in this discipline. Teenage divers are aplenty here in Beijing and some of them are quite dazzling.
10:43 AM: Gibb/Rosenthal convincingly defeats the Germans in beach volleyball. Man, I think the Americans have too much beach on their shorelines. Too good! Too good!
10:35 AM: Wow, Canoe/Kayak Slalom is one hard sport! It's amazing how they're able to manoeuver the raging current.
10:11 AM: US beach volleyball player Jake Gibb's middle name is Spiker...perfect for a volleyballer eh?!
10:05 AM: Mike Brown of Canada won his heat in the Men's 200 M Breaststroke earlier with another Canadian record. The 4 by 200 M Freestyle Relay team also qualified for the Finals with yet another CR. There have been 16 Canadian Records in Beijing and this is Day 4. Last time in Athens, the Canucks only set 3 CRs in the entire tournament.
9:46 AM: Hayley Wickenheiser is a softball announcer for the Olympics?? Isn't she an ice hockey captain for Canada?
9:45 AM: And also look at the North Koreans go on the podium!! They've already got 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze. In Athens, North Korea won 5 medals, none gold.
9:44 AM: Look at the South Koreans go in the medal standings! 5 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze puts them third in the standings.
9:40 AM: Wow, CBC morning host mistakes Canada for China. "We've been watching China vs. Sweden..." Hello!!! This coming from a Canadian network, you'd think they'd know what their home country is!
9:35 AM: What a busy night it was! Canada has just lost to Sweden in football (Olympic language) 2-1, but both teams will be going to the QFs. Now CBC, please show us something more interesting.
____________(Sleep)____________

12:04 AM: China looks to be on the doorstep of victory! I'm going to sleep. See you all tomorrow morning!

11:58 PM: What a great comeback for Fabian Hambuechen, performing a near flawless floor exercise routine. Mental toughness=Success!!!

11:44 PM: Fabian Hambuechen of Germany makes a critical error on his best apparatus: the High Bar. His grip on one of the turns slipped and that's just too bad...he recovers and finishes the routine perfectly. How many times have we seen beautiful routines get stained by crucial mistakes?

11:38 PM: Li XiaoPeng does his trademark vault (named after him no less), the second hardest in the world and you can't do it better than that-16.775!!!! Vault is the shortest event in artistic gymnastics but it sure is the most exciting!

11:37 PM: Yang Wei has just nailed an extremely difficult vault to the roar of the arena. The fans are loving every moment of this.

11:32 PM: Chants of U-S-A goes up in the National Indoor Stadium and the Chinese fans counter with boisterous cheers as China prepare to take to the vault where they are hands down, the best in the world. This atmostphere is absolutely electrifying.

11:25 PM: What is going on with Japan. They've committed 2 MAJOR landing errors on vault and look extremely lackadaisical. And did you know there is a vault jump named after Kyle Shewfelt?

11:24 PM: I like CBC hiring Kyle Shewfelt as gymnastic commentator. Very good choice. Incredibly insightful!

11:22 PM: An update on softball: the Canadians are up 4-0 on Chinese Taipei in the top of the 6th inning. Don't you love how the Olympic rings are imprinted in the outfield?

11:10 PM: Michael Phelps takes to the pool just 50 minutes after his first swim today!! It's "incredible", says the NBC commentator. He just has to conserve and save the tank for now. And look at that, so effortlessly, Phelps ties the Olympic record!

11:00 PM: Did I mention that I'm from the same province as Yang Wei?!

10:51 PM: And at last, Aussie Leisel Jones gets her long awaited elusive gold medal with a new Olympic Record as well. That brings Ian Thorpe to his feet.

10:47 PM: Hey, look who's there! Ian Thorpe was on hand to witness Michael Phelps' third gold. The Thorpedo said that he did not think Phelps could collect all 8 golds. But even a cynic like Ian couldn't help but come to Beijing to see the Baltimore Bullet in person.

10:32 PM: Another World Record, this time falling at the hands of Aaron Peirsol-52.54 s with fellow Yankee Matt Grevers winning silver in the Men's 100 M Backstroke. So 6 medals for the USA in the last 15 minutes!

10:24 PM: The gregarious Natalie Coughlin cruises to a tight victory in the Women's 100 M Backstroke. Kirsty Coventry wins her third medal for Zimbabwe! The Americans have hauled in 4 medals in the last 10 minutes. Only if they could keep up this pace eh??

10:18 PM: THIRD GOLD AND NEW WORLD RECORD FOR MICHAEL PHELPS! Could this win have been any easier?? Just for the record, Mark Spitz's winning time in this event in '72 was 10 seconds slower than Phelps' tonight. Congrats to Taehwan Park too, great race for the Korean teenager.

10:07 PM: Yang Wei saves the team by performing a solid floor routine. The work of a true leader and champion!! Go China!!

10:02 PM: Oh boy...mistake from China in the floor exercise. Chen YiBing stumbles on the landing and takes more than 2 steps on his last pass.

9:59 PM: Another packed house at the Cube and the National Indoor Stadium as the swimming and gymnastics finals get set to begin.

9:48 PM: Can anybody tell me why the CBC "Live" streaming keeps buffering and freezing??!!

9:30 PM: Softball action begins now!! Canada vs. Chinese Taipei...great match up to open the tournament. Canadians have a decent shot for the podium!

9:16 PM: Never knew Misty May was married to Matt Treanor, the Florida Marlins catcher. I knew Misty May was married to some guy named Treanor, but never really thought it was the baseball player. Olympic gold medalists and Major Leaguer...imagine how athletic their kids would be!

9:06 PM: Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Now, NBC airs a Barack Obama campaign ad. This is the Olympics people! Get politics outta here!

9:04 PM: Here comes Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh!! These ladies have won 102 straight matches. And when you do that, even the President comes to watch you play! Tell me the American pair aren't the favourites to win the beach volleyball Olympic title!

8:55 PM: NBC airs a feature on what a usual day for Michael Phelps is like. Hey, he's using chopsticks! Haha...but his metabolism is insane!!!

8:38 PM: Are there any divers who don't have perfectly beautiful six pack abs??

8:30 PM: After Americans Thomas Finchum and David Boudia rip through the water, their families go beserkly jubilant! Funny but I suppose that's the Olympic spirit!

8:18 PM: The Chinese divers just robbed the field with straight 10's on synchro and 2 more 10's! Totally merited! That's some unbelievable symmetry when you put on the slow mo!

8:14 PM: What??!! They're airing that Obama Celebrity ad by McCain on NBC??!! During the Olympics? What the hell is going on??

8:08 PM: Watching the Men's 10 M Synchro Diving replays...the British pair features a 14 year old diver--Thomas Daley--amazing. Gotta give the young guys loads of credit!! Again, I feel underachieved! The Americans and Chinese look really young as well.

7:03 PM: Brand new day in Beijing. A busy day, the busiest yet! 19 Gold Medal Events on tap for the next 24 hours. Wrestling begins its competition and softball action will begin with Canada vs. Chinese Taipei which should be a fun one to watch. Phelps going for his 3 gold tonight in the 200 M Free and Men's Team Gymnastics Finals begin at 10 PM! Look for lots of updates in the next few hours!!

6:30 PM: Join me for HD Sports-Olympic Special as I wrap up Day 3 of action at
