Flashing the Press Credentials on Day 3

12:19 PM: CBC has cleverly decided that oh since it's a workday, no body's gonna want to watch the Olympic between the hours of 12-6. NOT TRUE! But I can't do anything about it, so that's it for this Olympic morning (night in Beijing). Be sure to join me for a wrap up of Day 3 at 6:30 PM at www.blogtalkradio.com/hdsports! NBC viewers, enjoy the water polo game! That's DAY 3 for ya!

12:09 PM: You can add water polo to my list of watched sports in these Games. No wait...are you sure that's water polo? Isn't that a volleyball?

12:04 PM: I'm impressed by the amount of broadcasters the networks have dispatched for the different sports. Rowing, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, beach volleyball, football...you name it, they've got special commentators for it. I am impressed!

11:58 AM: Oh no...Canada bounces out at the tennis centre. Another medal aspiration down the drain, and probably the last ever Olympic match for Daniel Nestor. The Canucks committed 10 double faults...it made all the disappointing difference.

11:48 AM: What a huge break for Daniel Nestor and Frederic Niemeyer, down 5-2, they come back to win 2 games. Canada serving...down 4-5 in the third and final set. 1

1:40 AM: Katie Hoff, US swimmer, looks like an alien with her goggles. 11:07 AM: Very nice! CBC shows the Rowing Eight heats from earlier in Day 3. The Canadians comfortably win their heat! That's a great race, winning by a 7 second margin.

11:00 AM: Wow, what a show from Phil Dalhausser! Americans beat the Suisse after that devastating defeat by the Latvians. But this shows why they're the #1 seed!! 10:58 AM: I like the paddles of the Canadian crew teams.

10:57 AM: I like the red shirts worn by the Canadian tennis players.

10:35 AM: Tennis gets some air time now!! Woohoo...Daniel Nestor and Frederic Niemeyer! Tennis has been so plagued by the rain in the past couple days!

10:23 AM: Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser back in action, facing the Suisse. What's with their sunglasses?? Oh...the announcer explains they are just wearing the frames. Funny.

10:05 AM: I love how the networks are not only covering sports, but really going in-depth into the Chinese culture and the regular lives of the Chinese people. It gives a sense of how unique the nation really is and it's quite amazing what stories these Western networks are able to find. Good coverage indeed!

9:46 AM: What is going on with the Russians?? No gold medals after Day 3. And look at the Koreans standing ahead of the United States with 4 golds and 4 silvers!!

9:41 AM: Another Olympic Record falling at the pool...and of course, at the hands of Michael Phelps.

9:34 AM: About an hour ago, CBC put on diving and that was a treat! China's gold total now stands at 9 after the diving gold and a couple weightlifting golds. Man, I'm still in awe of last night's remarkable race in the Men's 4 by 100 M Freestlye Relay! Can't wait until more swimming tonight!!
____________(Sleep)____________

12:13 AM: That's it for me on the day! And what a day it was! Who knows what the medal standings will be like tomorrow morning?!

11:57 PM: What a moment for the Americans! And what great sportsmanship from Michael Phelps, going over to shake the hands of the French! The sounds of the Star Spangled Banner resonates within the Water Cube tonight with a special ring to it. And that smile of Michael Phelps has a special spirit tonight. This is perhaps the greatest relay we have EVER seen!

11:54 PM: Here's medal ceremony! Alexander Popov going to give out the medals. Wow. This is amazing!

11:30 PM: UNBELIEVABLE FINISH!!!!!!!!!! This has got to be the most incredible comebacks ever!!!! Team USA in the 4 by 100 M Freestyle NICKS out the French!! Jason Lezak tightened the gap SO MUCH in the last 50 M. The French were leading about half a body length at the last turn! Oh my gosh...my jaws just dropped when USA clocked first. And forget about the WR...it was about 5 body lengths behind the champs and 5 of the 8 teams were ahead of it. Wow! Race of the day! WHAT A FINISH!!!!!!

11:21 PM: Ooooooo!!!! What a finish in the Women's 400 M Freestyle...sooooooooo close for Katie Hoff (0.07 seconds). Brits take Gold and Bronze. Olympic excitement at its best!!!!!

11:10 PM: What a great moment for Kosuke Kitijima of Japan and it's gives me goosebumps to see Chinese fans applauding the Japanese champion, despite the historical antagonisms between us. This is the Olympic ideal at its best!

11:03 PM: Three minutes after it was set, Vyatchanin's Olympic Record is broken...so much for the record books!

11:02 PM: Are you kidding me? Matt Grevers' wingspan is 6'11''!!!

11:00 PM: Vyatchanin of Russia beautifully cruises to a new OR in the Men's 100 M Back Semi--you ROCK (he celebrated by giving a rockers hand sign)!

10:32 PM: Too bad Brendan Hansen, didn't get a medal in the 100 M Breastroke Final, but kudos for his sportsmanship! Another WR by Kosuke Kitijima (doesn't he look like a frog?)...this time with a legal dophin kick.

10:23 PM: Wow, look at how long Michael Phelps stay submerged coming off the turn!

10:13 PM: Hey, nice yawn from Michael Phelps! Better wake up Michael! We want world records!

10:10 PM: World Record! Kirsty Coventry effortlessly breaks the WR! Can swimming records ever stand??

10:01 PM: Natalie Coughlin likes cooking! How bout that?

9:19 PM: No wonder Guo JingJing and Wu MinXia won gold. Don't they just look like the same person diving??

9:01 PM: President Bush is visiting with NBC Studios, talking about China and sports. He admitted that he'll be going to the swimming events again. What a guy...last year in office, so take as much advantage as he can of the taxpayers' money!

8:25 PM: OH MY GOODNESS! What a Uneven Bars routine from the Chinese girl He KeXin (whose age is in dispute)! You could feel the drama and electricity as she did the crazily preposterous twists in the air. Though she did slip and fall, the routine was just so extremely incredible! Unbelievable resolute character from He as well, having gotten on the bar as soon as she fell and finishing with a hugely solid ending. *Hats off*

7:35 PM: Wow, CBC's actually showing badminton. Don't get me wrong, I love badminton and think it should gain much more coverage, but I never knew CBC had an interest in it. Haha. Now it's boxing turn to get some rare spotlight in prime time. Meanwhile, KUDOS to NBC for re-broadcasting the women's diving final from the wee hours. The Chinese owned!

7:01 PM: Man I'm thirsty after that 30 minute ramble! Hungry as well! But I can't wait until the swimming finals! Can't wait til the Americans break the WR and Phelps gets his second gold! Can't wait...Go China! Go Canada!

6:27 PM: About to go live at
www.blogtalkradio.com/hdsports for a highlight show on Day 2 of enthralling action in Beijing. From basketball to swimming and even Bush's travels in Beijing, join me for half an hour of Olympic talk!!
